Carlton defeats East Melbourne 8 - 23 to 0 - 1 at Princes Oval.

June 4
The East Melbourne v. Hotham match in Royal Park is abandoned due to rain. East were down two goals to nil when the match was terminated.

June 11
East Melbourne leaves the ground with five minutes remaining against South Melbourne after its request to change the umpire is refused.

July 1
East Melbourne’s Tindale represents Victoria in it first inter-colonial game against NSW.

Hotham defeats East Melbourne 4 - 11 to 1 - 11 in the second senior VFA game at the RCG. It will be East’s last game as the RCG’s tenant.

Aug. 4
The Richmond Cricket Club decides to let the south fence of the RCG for advertising. In February 1882 the hoarding on the south fence would be let to Cullis Hill & Co.

Aug. 6
East Melbourne players F. Tindale and H.___ Dunne represent Victoria against NSW.

Aug. 13
Carlton defeats East Melbourne six goals to one at the Princes Oval.

Aug. 20
East Melbourne players F. Tindale and H.___ Dunne represent Victoria against South Australia.

Sept. 10
South Melbourne defeats East Melbourne six goals to nil at the SMCG.

Sept. 17
Geelong 8 - 25 defeats East Melbourne 0 - 0 at Geelong.
