BIOGRAPHY
Alan played most of his career in defence. Recruited from Burnley, his only senior game was as a last minute replacement for an injured teammate. He spent four seasons with Richmond before moving to Albury. After retiring as a player he umpired for three years. He served in the R.A.A.F during World War Two and he was awarded the “Distinguished Service Order” for efforts above and beyond the call of duty whilst on active service. He also received the “Mentioned In Dispatches” citation for bravery during his service in the South West Pacific. He later worked as a project officer during the construction of the Woomera Rocket Range and was awarded the M.B.E (Member of the British Empire) for his services. He was also mentioned in the Bicentennial Year Book for his war service.
