BIOGRAPHY
Craig was a ruck-rover. He was originally recruited from Sydney Swans Under/19 team via Dandenong to the Richmond Thirds. He was a very skilful player who had amazing reflexes and the uncanny ability to be able to spin out of trouble with a minimum of fuss. He is also a fine exponent of handball which he used creatively to set up forward moves. His ability to find a teammate with a handpass whilst surrounded by opponents was a stroke of genius. On some occasions his handball was too quick for his teammates such is his speed and precision. He was a consistently high possession winner who improves his kicking greatly during his time with Richmond.
In 1987, he was voted Best Player in the Finals and Best and Fairest for the Under/19 side. He then won the Seniors’ Best and Fairest in 1991 and was runner-up in 1989. He has become a regular Victorian player having represented the state seven times. After his contract expired at the end of 1993 he looked like moving to Sydney and later North Melbourne before being picked up by the Brisbane Bears. His 1994 season finished very successfully when after missing several early games he struck form and went on to win the Bears Best and Fairest award. In 1995, he struggled with injuries; however, he did play very well in the Bears first-ever Finals’ game against Carlton.
