BIOGRAPHY
Darryl was a utility player. Although just under 6 foot tall he was a versatile player who could hold down a key position because of his spring and marking ability. He started his senior career with Glenorchy before crossing to North Melbourne in 1973, however he returned to Glenorchy after one season. North Melbourne lured him back in 1976 and he stayed there until the end of 1980. He kicked 5 goals in the 1976 preliminary final to help North Melbourne to a narrow victory over Carlton in a low scoring game. He was a member of North's 1977 Premiership team and 1976 Grand Final side. He played with Swan Districts in 1981 and went on to gain selection in the West Australian State team.
He then crossed to Richmond in 1982 where he spent an injury interrupted season before moving north to the Sydney Swans. He eventually returned to Tasmania where he finished his playing career with North Hobart, kicking 12 goals in the 1984 first semi-final for North Hobart against New Norfolk. During his career he played 255 senior games and gained selection in the 1979 and 1980 All-Australian teams. He would have played in excess of 300 games had he not suffered eight broken noses, two dislocated shoulders, a punctured lung, a broken cheek as well as enduring an ankle reconstruction. His most recent involvement in football was as coach of the Riddell Football League combined team in 1992.
