In 2011 he dislocated his patella and suffered extensive medial ligament damage in Rd 12 vs Sydney.
He was out of football for 12 months before returning to play with the club's VFL affiliation Coburg.
Highly rated and much improved in the first half of 2014, he was leading the club's Best and Fairest after 8 rounds before suffering another kneecap dislocation in Round 9 vs Melbourne. The key defender succumbed to more injuries in 2015 and played only four early games before spending the rest of the season in the VFL.
At the start of the 2015 season he stood on a stingray barb and required surgery, causing him to miss the first two games of that season. The 2016 season was his first significant injury-free season, missing only 1 game with an ankle injury, and playing in the VFL twice. He played every game in the 2017 season, culminating in the drought-breaking premiership.
He played in a further 2 premiership in 2019 and the covid-affected 2020.
