BIOGRAPHY
Gareth was a versatile player who was capable of holding down key positions in either defence and attack . He also played as a ruck-rover , centre-half-forward and back-pocket .Very mobile and easy to distinguish with his awkward kicking style , he originally started with Geelong in 1965 and won their Goalkicking award in his first season . He was the only player to win this award between 1961 and 1972 as Doug Wade was treir full-forward during that time . Gareth's highest individual goal tally was 7 against Hawthorn in Round 18 of 1965 . He was a member of Geelong's 1967 Grand Final team beaten by Richmond and is a Life Member of Geelong . Gareth missed the 1971 season when he travelled overseas .
A strong mark , he was recruited to Richmond from Geelong in 1974 as part of a swap involving Rex Hunt going to Geelong . Gareth spent two seasons with Richmond , being a member of the 1974 Premiership team . He performed very well in the 1974 Semi-Final against North Melbourne and was voted in Richmond's best three players . After retiring as a player he served as Richmond's Treasurer and General Manager in 1978-79 . Gareth also worked in radios an around-the-ground man and panel member with the ABC Football show .
