George passed way on 1 February 1920. The Richmond Annual Report announced he "passed away very suddenly with pneumonia, supervening after an operation for appendicitis. He took a very keen interest in the team, and was a good worker for the club, and the news of his death came as a great shock to his old club mates and friends "
