BIOGRAPHY
Greg Stafford from New South Wales played senior football with Western Suburbs Australian Football Club in the Sydney Football
League. He was recruited by the Sydney Swans where he played 140 senior games as a ruckman/forward between 1993-2001. At the end of 2001 Sydney traded Greg to Richmond in exchange for Nick Daffy and Richmond’s pick 17 in the 2001 AFL National Draft. Greg played his first senior game with Richmond in Round 1, 2002 against Collingwood. Greg played 74 games with the Tigers giving Richmond a strong physical presence in the ruck and when given more time up forward he became a reliable goalkicker with 83 goals for Richmond at 72% efficiency . Tony Greenberg (RFC Media) in an article for the Richmond web site on 11th October 2012 described Greg as one of Richmond’s top 20 trades .

The following extract from Tony’s article talks about Greg’s reluctance to make any long term commitment until he was sure he had the appetite for AFL football. “ As it turned out , a revitalised Greg Stafford went on to play 74 games and provide the Tigers solid value over the ensuing five seasons" .

At 204 cm and 106 kg , Stafford bolstered the Richmond line-up with his physical presence . Throw in strong marking , accurate kicking for goal , toughness, aggression, experience , leadership qualities , an admirable work ethic , along with a clever football brain , and you had a more than handy acquisition. Stafford’s Tiger teammates seemed to walk that little bit taller when
he imposed himself on the game day action. Given his size and all round football attributes , he had the confidence to match it with any opponent in the competition , without ever feeling intimidated . Greg took all his opportunities and worked very hard with both Sydney and Richmond in what was an impressive AFL career. Greg had an unsettling situation in 2002, when an emotional fan ran onto the ground and attempted to touch him. It is understood that the woman had been stalking Greg for five years . The woman was given a 12 month good behaviour bond.
