BIOGRAPHY
Ivan Maric did not play competitive AFL football until his mid teens because he had a developing career in basketball .
He played at Keilor and then joined Calder Cannons and found the technical side of playing difficult to master but showed enough
potential to be drafted by the Adelaide Crows with pick 40 in the 2004 AFL National Draft. Ivan played 77 games in 7 years with the
Crows and while he eventually established himself as Adelaide‘s number one ruckman the 2011 season saw him play only 6 games and led to Ivan seeking more opportunities away from Adelaide .
Ivan was traded by Adelaide in exchange for Richmond’s pick 37 in the 2011 AFL National Draft .
Ivan joined Richmond in the 2012 season and was soon the number one ruckman in the Tigers senior team , playing 22 games and
finishing third in the 2012 Best and Fairest . Ivan was an immediate favourite with Tiger fans and at the start of the 2013 season he was voted into the club’s leadership group by his peers. Ivan was appointed joint vice captain with Brett Deledio for the 2015 season. It seemed as though Ivan had been waiting for a club like Richmond , and Richmond had been waiting for a player like Ivan. After 77 games in 4 years between 2012-2015 , Ivan lost his place in the senior team and only played 3 games in 2016. Ivan played a number of games in the Richmond VFL team and was a mentor to a number of young ruck aspirants.Ivan signed a one year extension to play in 2017 but did not play a senior game, announcing in June his retirement at the end of the season.

After announcing his retirement Ivan accepted a permanent off-field role at Richmond as a player development and ruck coach . Ivan also played in the Richmond VFL team and was a member of the Tigers 2017 losing VFL Grand Final team. Ivan who is
a cousin of young ruckman Ivan Soldo has had a great influence on young Ivan’s career which already includes a senior Premiership in 2019 .
