BIOGRAPHY
John was a ruckman and forward-pocket He was recruited from the local Richmond area and was affectionately known as “ Jerker “ . Although not a fast mover , he was strongly-built and a fine competitor in the ruck. He was a member of the Reserves 1954and 1955 Premiership sides . After seven seasonswith Richmond , he moved to North Melbourne where he became a regular senior player. Whilst at North Melbourne he featured in a famous football photograph in front of the old gasometerat the Arden Street Oval when Footscray legend Ted Whitten flew up his back to grab a spectular mark. He later transferred to Preston , before finishing his career with Vermont . After retiring as a player he became actively involved in the development of junior football in the Doncaster area. John died in 1980.
