BIOGRAPHY
Ralph was a talented wingman and rover who played in richmond’s 1928 and 1929 Grand Final teams. He was a very level-headed player who had great poise and did not get flustered in a crisis. He was also a strong mark for his size. Apart from football he played Senior XI District Cricket with Richmond in 1927/28. He scored 1 run and took 8 wickets with his best performance being 5 wickets. He then played at University where he scored 235 runs and took 50 wickets between 1931 and 1934. With Carlton between 1934 and 1939, he scored 310 runs and took 4 wickets. He started out as a fast bowler and finished as a batsman, and once scored 117 not-out for Carlton seniors. A schoolteacher, he twice took country teaching positions which interfered with his VFL career. Ralph died in 1961.
