BIOGRAPHY
Richie was a full-back. He started with the Richmond Seconds at the age of 15 and spent just over six seasons with the club. He was an enthusiastic player who was noted as a hard trier. In 1934 he became the third Richmond player to win the "Gardiner Medal" as Best and Fairest in the VFL Reserve Grade. He was also a member of the Reserves first Premiership team in 1929. He crossed to Fitzroy in 1935 and spent two seasons there before finishing at Sandringham where he played between 1937 and 1940. As a young man he was also an excellent competitive diver. He died in 1978. His father, Ernie Sanders was Richmond's head trainer for many years.
