BIOGRAPHY
Stephen came to Richmond as a forward; however, he finished up as a key position defender. He was recruited from Sandy Bay when he made his senior debut at the age of 16. He spent a season with Richmond’s Under/19 team before gaining selection to the seniors. He was a strong mark and could kick well with both feet. He was a fine tackler and a player who excelled in heavy conditions. During Richmond’s 1980 Finals campaign, he performed very well and was nominated as one of the best players in the Premiership win. A drop in form saw him leave Richmond after the 1982 season and move to South Fremantle in 1983, where he spent three seasons. He then crossed to Perth where he spent three seasons and also represented Western Australia on one occasion. Stephen returned to Melbourne in 1990 and spent four seasons with Amateur team Collegians.
