Troy Chaplin played junior football with Marysborough Rovers, moved to North Ballarat Rebels and was drafted by Port Adelaide
with pick 15 overall in the 2003 AFL National Draft. Troy was a member of the U/18 Victorian Basketball team but had chosen
football over basketball. Troy debuted in the Port Adelaide senior team in Round 4, 2004. Troy played 140 games with Port Adelaide and at the end of the 2012 season , as a restricted free agent Richmond made him a 4 year offer which Port Adelaide chose not to match.
Troy played 75 games with Richmond between 2013-2016 which coincided with the early years of Damien Hardwick’s coaching role at Richmond. Troy was recruited for his defensive experience and led the Tigers backline along with Alex Rance. Troy announced his immediate retirement from AFL football in June 2016 and remained in a coaching role to the end of the season
