BIOGRAPHY
Troy Simmonds originally played with Montrose Junior Football club and the moved to Box Hill . Troy was drafted by Melbourne with pick 9 in the 1999 AFL Pre-season Draft. Troy played 27 games for Melbourne in 1999 and 2000 including the 2000 Grand Final loss to Essendon when he was carried off on a stretcher following a head-on charge by Essendon’s Michael Long . At the end of 2001Troy was traded by Melbourne to Fremantle, where in three seasons he played 64 games out of a possible 67 including Fremantle’s first ever finals game in 2003 against Essendon. At the end of the 2004 season Troy was traded back to Victoria in a three way trade with Heath Black returning to Fremantle , Aaron Fiora moving to St Kilda and Troy moving to Richmond. Troy signed a five year contract with Richmond the length of which surprised some observers. Troy played 93 senior games at Richmond in the process becoming the number one ruckman taking 141 marks in 21 games in 2006 . Troy finished 9th in the 2005 Best and Fairest, 3rd in the 2006 Best and Fairest and 6th in the 2008 Best and Fairest . He had proved himself an important
player and despite being restricted to 11 games in 2009 , he signed a one year contract extension. After 7 games in 2010 Troy retired from AFL football.
